Resolution in Honor of Senator Dorothy Keane

AS-2500-99/Los Angeles - May 6-7, 1999

We’re ‘keen on Keane’ is a campaign slogan that has served Dorothy well. She has won many campus elections with that slogan, finally arriving at the pinnacle, that of becoming a member of delegation from Los Angeles to the CSU Academic Senate. Dorothy (we’re ‘keen on Keane’) follows a long line of Cal State L.A. leaders in this regard. For example, Len (‘do the math’) Mathy, Donald (‘give us more’) Moore, Robert (‘Robert’s rules’) Kully, and Harold (‘gold standard’) Goldwhite, to name a few. On this note, the delegation from Los Angeles wishes to recommend to the Academic Senate CSU the following

WHEREAS, Dorothy Keane came to the Academic Senate of the California State University in September of 1992, joining the delegation which represented the faculty of California State University, Los Angeles; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy, known always as a person who is reticent, shy and rarely has opinions about matters affecting the faculty of the California State University, nonetheless was recognized by her colleagues as a person of high quality and one with definite leadership abilities; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy, once recognized for her true colors, became a most active and productive Chair of the Teacher Education and K-12 Relations Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy’s tenure as chair of that committee extended from 1995 to 1997 during which time her influence on and contributions to the deliberations of this body will certainly be judged as long-lasting, and more real than virtual; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy, ever helpful and clear about her abilities and skills, has decided to reposition herself in the Chancellor’s Office in Long Beach where she will assist our system to put its actions where its verbiage has been in regard to competency in mathematics for incoming students; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Keane, because of her new position, has chosen to retire from the Academic Senate CSU although some feel that she will secretly wish to be here to participate and contribute to the rhetoric and the deliberations undertaken by this Senate; therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University commend Senator Keane on her dedicated service to the students, faculty, and staff of the California State University; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU acknowledge with thanks Senator Keanes’ steadfast support of students by removing barriers to those who wish to enter the teaching profession; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU thank Dorothy for her insight, humor, and dedication to the mission of the California State University; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU wish Dorothy well and God-speed during her absence from the Academic Senate of the California State University; and be it further

RESOLVED: That her colleagues on the Academic Senate wish Senator Keane success in her new endeavors for the betterment of our System; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU thank Senator Keane for her service to the academy and to the CSU, and wish her much good fortune in the years ahead.
