Resolution in Honor of Senator Sylvia Navari
AS-2377-97/Sacramento - May 8-9, 1997
WHEREAS, Sylvia Navari has served the Academic Senate of the
California State University and the Faculty Affairs Committee
for three years; and
WHEREAS, Sylvia's energy and ideas have generated healthy, productive
and important debates about service learning, the three-year
baccalaureate, faculty rewards, merit pay, and welfare reform,
among other issues; and
WHEREAS, Sylvia Navari brought her understanding of parliamentary
procedure to Senate debates, thereby providing service of
inestimable value; and
WHEREAS, Sylvia has been a prolific writer and defender of amendments
to Senate resolutions which for the most part added, rather
than detracted, from the issue; and
WHEREAS, She has always been a spirited questioner of chancellors and
ardent defender of campus senates, and consummate
strategist; and
WHEREAS, She has wisely decided that training dogs is infinitely more
satisfying than herding cats; and
WHEREAS, Her departure from the Senate represents the end of an era on
the Sacramento Back Bench; therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University
thank Professor Sylvia Navari for her years of excellent work
and wish her well in her real life.
