The California State University Exemption From The Elm Examination Based On Performance On Alternate Examinations

Students will be exempted from the ELM examination for having performed at or above the level specified below on the following examinations:

Score Examination

3 College Board Advance Placement Mathematics Examination (AB or BC)

560 College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)-Math

(Taken prior to March 1994)

560 SAT (I)** Reasoning Test or SAT (II)** Mathematics Test Levels I, II, or

IIC (Calculator) taken on or after March 1, 1994

24 American College Testing (ACT) Mathematics Test

(Taken Prior to October 1989)

25 Enhanced ACT Mathematics Test

(Taken October 1989 and later)

560 College Board Mathematics Achievement Test** Level 1 or Level 2

(Taken prior to March 1994)

** Note: The College Board SAT and Achievement Tests were replaced by SAT I and SAT II, respectively, beginning March 1994. Beginning April 1, 1995, the SAT I and SAT II exams were scored on a new scale; however, the SAT scores qualifying for exemption from the ELM remain the same.

Minimum Score Examination

3 Advanced Placement Language and Composition or Composition and Literature examination of the College Board Advanced Placement Program.

Pass/Exempt CSU English Equivalency Examination. Scores for credit or exemption as determined by the CSU faculty.

470 Verbal section of the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT-Verbal)* taken prior to March 1994.

470 Verbal section of the College Board SAT I* Reasoning Test taken between March 1994 and March 1995. (If taken after March 1995, see note below.)

22 American College Testing Program (ACT) English Usage Test taken prior to October 1989.

25 Enhanced ACT English Test taken October 1989 or later.

600 College Board Achievement Test* in English Composition with essay taken prior to January 1994.

600 College Board SAT II*: Writing Test taken between January 1994 and March 1995. (If taken after March 1995, see note below.)

550 Verbal section of the College Board SAT 1* Reasoning on or after April 15, 1995

600 Writing Test of the College Board SAT II* taken on or after April 1, 1995

• For transfer students, completion and transfer to the CSU of a college course that satisfies the General Education Breadth requirement or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum requirement in English compositions, provided such a course was completed with a grade C or better.

*Note: The College Board SAT and Achievement Tests have been replaced by SAT I and SAT II respectively beginning March 1994. In the Spring of 1995 CSU will publish new exemption score requirements for SAT I/II taken after March 1995.
