Articles of Establishment of the California State University Institute for Teaching and Learning

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University recommend to the Chancellor that the "Articles of Establishment of the California State University Institute for Teaching and Learning" be adopted, as follows:
*ARTICLES OF ESTABLISHMENT
OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY
INSTITUTE FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING
ARTICLE I
The name of this institute is the "California State University Institute for
Teaching and Learning."
ARTICLE II
This institute is created by the joint action and concurrence of the Academic
Senate and the Chancellor of the California State University.
ARTICLE III
The specific purposes for which this institute is formed are as follows:
The Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) is a California State University
System organization devoted to promoting the advancement of teaching and
learning, and faculty professional development. Its primary mission is to
provide assistance and resources in support of the highest standards of
university teaching excellence and to provide support for faculty members to
grow professionally. Under the guidance of a systemwide board, the ITL
works with CSU campuses to stimulate the interests and promote the
involvement of faculty members in improving the university teaching and
learning process and in engaging in scholarly and creative activities. The
ITL fosters and supports faculty research that contributes to effective teaching
and learning in and across the disciplines. Central to the mission of the ITL
is learning and teaching in a diverse, multicultural environment. The ITL
also works in partnership with campuses to promote the dissemination of
information regarding teaching and learning.
ARTICLE IV
This institute may be dissolved only by joint action and concurrence of
the Academic Senate and the Chancellor of the California State University.
ARTICLE V
These Articles of Establishment for the institute may be amended only by
joint action and concurrence of the Academic Senate and the Chancellor of
the California State University.
