Revised Draft Addendum (March 1993) To Executive Order 365:
Systemwide Credit By Evaluation

ATTACHMENT TO AS-2162-93/AA
WHEREAS, Executive Order 365 (Systemwide Credit by Evaluation [effective November 1, 1981]) established the procedures and conditions under which students are awarded credit by examination; and
WHEREAS, The periodic revisions, additions and deletions of the testing instruments used in granting credit by examination are itemized in addenda to Executive Order 365 (last modified September 1981); and
WHEREAS, The College Level Entrance Program (CLEP) General Exam in Mathematics no longer meets CSU expectations for. baccalaureate-level mathematics because it assesses mathematical competency at or below the level of intermediate algebra; and
WHEREAS, The proposed revised addendum replaces the CLEP General Exam in Mathematics with the College Algebra CLEP College Algebra for 3 semester units which purports to meet the expectations of baccalaureate level units; and
WHEREAS, The proposed revised addendum also includes CLEP College Algebra - Trigonometry for 5 semester units; and
WHEREAS, Questions have been raised as to whether CLEP College Algebra and College Algebra - Trigonometry meet the requirements of a baccalaureate-level course; and
WHEREAS, The CLEP Calculus with Elementary Function has replaced the CLEP Calculus and Analytic Geometry; and
WHEREAS, These changes in the mathematics CLEP examinations are reflected in the revised addendum to Executive Order 365 dated March, 1993; and
WHEREAS, The earliest discontinuance of using the CLEP General Exam in Mathematics for meeting CSU expectations for baccalaureate-level mathematics is necessary; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Academic Senate of the California State University approve the March, 1993 revised Addendum to Executive Order 365 with regard to the following changes concerning the College Level Examination Program (CLEF) mathematics portion:
- Deletion of CLEP General Exam in Mathematics
- Replacement of CLEP Calculus and Analytic Geometry with CLEF Calculus with
Elementary Functions with a passing score of 51 for 3 semester units
; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Academic Senate CSU recommend that credit for CLEP College Algebra with a passing score of 45 for 3 semester units and CLEP College Algebra - Trigonometry with a passing score of 45 for 5 semester units be deferred until a future time when the status of these exams is settled.
