Review of California State University Systemwide Aids Policy and Guidelines

WHEREAS, The California State University, prior to 1986, established an AIDS TaskForce to assist the administration in developing a policy and guidelines to assist the campuses in dealing with AIDS and HIV related conditions; and
WHEREAS, The California State University published a systemwide AIDS Policy and Guidelines in 1986; and
WHEREAS, Since 1986 there have been many changes in our knowledge, the definition, the treatment and the language regarding AIDS and HIV related conditions; and
WHEREAS, There is a draft of an updated version of the AIDS Policy and Guidelines which is currently being prepared and circulated for comments; and
WHEREAS, The AIDS Task Force has not been convened since 1986, and
WHEREAS, There exists no formal mechanism to review the updated systemwide AIDS Policy and Guidelines; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Academic Senate of the California State University urge the Chancellor to convene the AIDS Task Force or a similar group to assist in the development of the updated systemwide AIDS Policy and Guidelines; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Academic Senate of the California State University urge the Chancellor to charge the convened AIDS Task Force or its replacement with meeting at regular intervals to review and make recommendations for possible updating of systemwide AIDS Policy and Guidelines.
