Dr. Waddell M. Herron serves as Associate Director of Analytic Research at the California State University Office of the Chancellor. Dr. Herron is responsible for undertaking broad and complex assignments associated with the short- and long-term strategic planning activities of the California State University (CSU) system. These assignments include: 1) the preparation of enrollment planning and management projections for budget allocations to the 22 campuses within the CSU system; 2) developing and executing analyses pertaining to the admissions policies and practices of the CSU system based on data from the CSU enrollment reporting systems (applications and admissions, students, degrees, and off-campus centers) and external agencies such as the Department of Education, California Basic Educational Data System (CBEDS) and the U. S. Census for California; 3) participating in cooperative endeavors with the California Postsecondary Education Commission and the Department of Education on studies pertaining to the college preparation and eligibility of high school graduates to the CSU; and 4) serving as the CSU representative on two statewide intersegmental postsecondary committees (University of California, California Community Colleges, and the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities).

Dr. Herron earned a bachelor's degree in Architecture from Princeton University and a master's degree and a doctoral degree in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles. Before joining the CSU in 1992, Dr. Herron taught full-time in the Ethnic Studies Department and Urban Studies and Planning Program at the University of California, San Diego. Prior to beginning his graduate studies, Dr. Herron served in the Volunteers In Service To America (VISTA) Program at a Community Design Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Dr. Herron has received many honors and awards throughout his academic and professional career including a Distinguished Doctoral Student Award from the American Planning Association and a University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship. Dr. Herron has recently been selected by the American Council on Education (ACE) to be a member of the 2002-03 class of the ACE Fellows Program.
