In the discussion and subsequent development of learning outcomes for Art and Design, the assembled faculty decided to focus the outcomes on general areas of competence in the discipline. These areas of competence were identified as: critical skills, practice and production, histories and research, maintaining currency, and life-long participation. In structuring the recommended outcomes, the participants attempted to generalize the goals and outcomes to allow broad inclusion from among the many diverse Art and Design programs contained within the California State University system. In discussing and determining these goals and outcomes, the group also considered the Cornerstones initiatives, examples and models from several CSU campuses, and internet information related to this subject.
